Mary-Ellen Doyon
September 27, 1934 ~ January 1, 2026
PORTLAND – Mary-Ellen Doyon, 91, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026.
She was born on September 27, 1934, in Portland, Maine to the late John and Mary Clowes. She graduated from Portland High School in 1952. On December 27, 1954, she married Henry Doyon in Portland, beginning a marriage centered on family, faith, and home until his passing in 2008. Her focus being a mom and a homemaker, she held several part-time jobs over the years. In 1966, she and Henry opened Doyon’s Variety, a convenience store, on Munjoy Hill.
Mary-Ellen’s life was defined by her devotion to her family. Known lovingly as “Nana,” even to those not related to her, children were her true joy. She shared close and meaningful relationships with each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and never hesitated to be available for them. Her selflessness was evident, often placing the needs of her family and friends ahead of her own. Along with her kindness, she was known for her quick-witted banter and sense of humor, which created many memorable gatherings and moments.
A faithful and devout Catholic, Mary-Ellen lived her faith quietly and consistently. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, and her steady presence left a lasting mark on those who knew her. She enjoyed babysitting, bowling, card nights, casinos, eating out, Starbucks, shopping and most of all family traditions.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Henry Doyon; her daughter, Kimberly Floyd; and her siblings, Rita Masters, Barbara Fiaetta, Patricia Manning, Anne Traynor, and John Clowes.
She is survived by her children, Kevin Doyon of Hampton, Daniel Doyon and his wife Sue of Portland, and Michele McLaughlin and her husband George of Randolph, Son-In-Law Charles (Philip) Floyd and his wife Rebecca; her grandchildren, Jessica Trombley (Eric), Maxwell Doyon (Nati), Christopher Floyd (Mashia), Kristopher Doyon (Sarah), Sydney Doyon, Chelsey Richardson (Zachary), Tyler Doyon (gf Kunica), Katia Floyd, and Michael McLaughlin; her nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be private and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Walker Cremation, Funeral and Gathering Center, 300 Allen Avenue, Portland.
