SOUTH PORTLAND - Mary Anne Cervero, 85, died after a brief illness, on Thursday, March 29, 2012, at Maine Medical Center with her family at her bedside. Mary, the daughter of Albert "Zip" Werner and Katherine Matthews Werner, grew up on Munjoy Hill and graduated from Cathedral High School in 1944. She worked at Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Company later for Sargent Lord and Company as a secretary. She was a member of the Business and Industrial Girls Club, YWCA, in Portland. In 1950 she married Salvadore "Chips" Cervero whose Navy career provided the opportunity to live in the Philippines and in post-war Okinawa, Japan. Returning stateside, the couple lived in the DC area, Mary working for the Department of the Navy, Bureau of Ships. After many years in Fulton, then Laurel Maryland, Mary returned to Maine in 1998 to live in South Portland. She was an avid reader and walker, enjoying outings to Bug Light and the surrounding shoreline. Mary was predeceased by her husband and brothers John and Vinnie Werner and by two sisters Katherine Werner and Susan Gallagher. Mary is survived by her sisters-in-law Marjorie Werner of South Portland and Kathleen Werner of Portland. Nieces are Ann Palmer, Margaret Lane and Christine Spears. Nephews are Albert "Skip" Werner, and John Peter, Robert, and Paul Warner. A graveside service will be held 11:00 am, Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at New Calvary Cemetery, 1461 Broadway, South Portland.
