Mary Alice Crabb

Mary Alice Crabb, 97, of South Portland, died peacefully at her residence September 8, 2015 with her loving family by her side. She was born December 28, 1917 in Waterville, a daughter of Bernard D. and Marie E. (Kennedy) Conroy. Alice was educated in local schools and was a 1936 graduate of MCI High School in Pittsfield. She attended Malden Business College in Malden, MA. Prior to her marriage, Alice worked for the US Department of Agriculture from 1939-1943.She married Robert E. Crabb on April 22, 1946 at St. Agnes in Pittsfield and together they began their family. While her children were in school, she worked part time for Sears. She also worked for Federal Loan and Building Association for approximately 12 years until 1982; then working part time for Dr. Marvin Adams before retiring in 1990. Alice was a communicant of Holy Cross Church. She volunteered at the Mercy Hospital for seven years; was a member of the Portland Maine Emblem Club #171 and a former member of the Bangor American Legion Auxiliary. Besides her parents, Alice was predeceased by her husband Robert in 2002; her son David in 1989, and she was predeceased by two infant brothers, Bernard and Daniel Conroy. Surviving are her daughter, Joanne M. Ford and son-in-law, Stephen of Dedham, MA; her son Rev. John Crabb, SJ of Burlington, VT.; a sister, Regina Garenani of Kinderhook, NJ, and two grandchildren, Daniel Robert Ford and Joseph Ryan Ford of Dedham, MA. Also survived by several nieces, nephews, special friends Annette and Bob Mason and several caring and supportive neighbors and friends. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff members of Mercy Hospital for the caring and compassion they provided. Visiting hours will be held from 4-7PM on Sunday at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited at 9:15AM Monday at the funeral home, followed by a 10AM Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Cross Church, 124 Cottage Road, South Portland. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
