PORTLAND - Mark W. Beatty, 52, died suddenly on December 24, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Portland, on March 14, 1960, the son of Patrick L. and Marilyn L. (Loveitt) Beatty. Mark grew up in Portland and graduated from Portland High School in 1978. He was a communicant of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Mark was employed by the Portland Press Herald for over 30 years. Mark was described by those that knew him best as "amazingly loving to all people, and a kind, compassionate, and gentle soul." He is also the "greatest uncle in the world." Mark enjoyed many things, but especially hunting with his best friend and brother-in-law Ralph. He was a great friend to many, but often stayed close to his tight group of friends, Lisa Dacar, Michael Prince, Stephen Jacobsky, and his twin sister, Kate. Mark is predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his three sisters, Karen M. Beatty of Windham, Kathleen "Kate" Baker and husband Timothy of South Portland, and Kimberly Beatty-Stowell and husband Ralph Stowell of Portland; his brother Kevin Beatty and wife Cindy of Windham; six nieces and nephews, Joshua and Jordan Stowell, Emily Baker, and Tommy, Jennifer, and Michael Bonaventura; great nephew, Michael Thomas; and two aunts, Catherine Goddard and Edna Beatty. Visiting hours will be held from 4-8 pm on Friday, Dec. 28 at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am, Saturday, Dec. 29, at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, 307 Congress St, Portland, with Mark's lifelong friend, Rev. Thomas Murphy officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, South Portland. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mark's memory may be made to American Diabetes Association, Portland Div., PO Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.Online condolences may be expressed below.

I worked in the mailroom at the Press Herald for more than 10 years and would see Mark from time to time. He was such a nice guy and always so pleasant. I was so sad to hear of his passing. All of you, his beloved family, should be so proud of the person he was. May Mark rest in peace. Lisa

I am so very sorry to hear of the unexpected and tragic loss of Mark. My Heart aches this am to hear this sad sad news . Always a happy smile every time I saw him and so Many good memories of all of the past games we would be at watching the boys . I met relatives Friday evening at the dog fish and kept thinking … Hmmm I should go and see if Mark and Ralph are at the villa !.
