Marjorie Dunnells Chadbourne of Sanford, Maine quietly passed away on Monday, August 11, 2014 at the Newton Center in Sanford after a brief illness one month before her 88th birthday.Mrs. Chadbourne was born on September 18, 1926 to Raymond and Kathleen (Hiltz) Dunnells of Sanford. After attending local schools and graduating from Sanford High School in 1944, Marjorie attended the University of New Hampshire in Durham, NH where she majored in Biology and made many lifelong friends. Following graduation from UNH in 1948, she trained for a year at Maine General Hospital (Maine Medical Center) and became a Registered Medical Technologist. A year later on May 28, 1950 she married her husband of 64 years, Bernard H. Chadbourne Jr., who recently passed away on June 20, 2014.Mrs. Chadbourne's working career spanned 40 years and was dedicated to caring for and helping others. She worked in the laboratory at Goodall Hospital for several years before joining Drs. Donald Troop, William Dionne and William Peterlein at their practice in Springvale. In the early 1970's, Marjorie began working for longtime Sanford physician Dr. Ralph Belmont, serving as his nurse for over 20 years before retiring in 1991. Her many patients over the years appreciated her gentle way, her thorough nature and the wonderful care she provided them.Inquisitive by nature, Marjorie was both a scientist and naturalist and loved the world around her. Walks through her beloved ancestral farmland on Square Pond in Shapleigh always provided lessons on birds, wildflowers, wildlife and conservation. She was also interested in weather patterns, clouds and astronomy, and always posted the most recent star map on her refrigerator for all to see. Mrs. Chadbourne was also a long time member of the North Parish Congregational Church in Sanford where she taught Sunday school, played the piano, served on the Diaconate and Mission Board and was Church Clerk.Mrs. Chadbourne was predeceased by her husband, Bernard Chadbourne. Surviving are a daughter, Jane Chadbourne Kirton and her husband Robert of Sanford, and a son, James Chadbourne of Wells. She was a loving Grammy and great grandmother to Laura Kirton and David Kirton of Sanford, Amy Chadbourne and Alex Chadbourne of Wells, and great grandson AJ Anderson of Sanford.A memorial service to celebrate the lives of both Marjorie and Bernard Chadbourne will be held on Friday, August 22nd, 10:30 AM at North Parish Congregational Church, UCC located at 895 Main Street in Sanford with Rev. Diane Wendorf officiating. Interment will be held at 9:30 AM prior to the celebration of their lives at Oakdale Cemetery, located on Twombley Road in Sanford.
