Marion T. Lessard

July 17, 2018
Marion Theresa King Lessard ,92 , of Springvale Maine, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2018 at the Colonial Hill Nursing home after a short period of declining health.Marion was born to Katherine (Kay) King in Orono, Maine on November 29, 1925. She spent her childhood in Sanford, Maine where she enjoyed daily contact with her maternal grandmother, often referring to that as an important part of her life. Kay married Henry Ridley when Marion was four. Hap as he was affectionately known, was technically her stepfather though Marion just referred to him as Dad. Marion met Raymond J Lessard at a 10 cent dance in Sanford at the Unitarian Church in 1941. They were married shortly after on December 27th at the Holy Family Church in Sanford. They settled in Springvale, Maine close to family. Ray left to fight in World War II, leaving Marion alone to welcome their first child Sandra. Ray returned from the war and they had two more children. In 1956 the family of five moved to Dover, NH. Marion and Ray raised their three children on Richardson Drive and became part of the community that was filled with young families such as themselves. Marion was a stay at home mom and took great care of her home and children. She took pride in her how she kept things and nothing was ever worth doing unless it was done well. In 1981 Marion and Ray retired and moved to Shapleigh, Me. They lived on Mousam Lake in a camp Ray and his father and brothers built, later renovating it and turning it into a home. There they enjoyed life at the lake with long walks, feeding the birds and being an active part of their church. Summers were filled with visits from family and friends. Often things got quite loud with lots of laughter over a game of cards. Marion and Ray were devoted grandparents making it a point to take each grandchild for a week of undivided attention resting in between for a few days. The time was filled with swimming, fishing, playing games and eating the grandkids favorite meals. Marion and Ray left the lake in 2002 and moved once again to Springvale deciding it was too much care for their home at the lake as they got older. Marion was a gracious woman, had a great sense of humor and could be feisty if needed. Often a look from her would take care of any discipline warranted. She was very much in tune with how to treat people and was very sensitive to the needs of others. Marion learned responsibility at a young age when she bought a pair of black ice skates on credit. Each week she was disciplined and showed up with her quarter that she had agreed to pay to the store keeper. Marion was also compassionate and strong having survived breast cancer twice. Marion made an impact on those lives she touched. Marion was predeceased by her daughter Sandra McAdam in September 2002, her son in law James ( Jimmy) Towle March 2004 , and her husband Raymond of 64 years in 2005. Marion is survived by her two daughters and two sons -in- law, Karen Towle of Rochester, N.H., Brenda and John Armstrong of Tenants Harbor, and Paul McAdam of Laconia, N,H.; five grandchildren, Tara Elwell and Amber and Jeffrey Anderson of Tenants Harbor, Paul McAdam and Melissa Sentman of Mumbai, India., Todd McAdam and Joy Crocker of Cortlandville, N.Y., and Kyle and Kelly McAdam of Gilmington, N.H.; eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
