Marilyn C. Wallace, daughter of Dana H. Hamlin and Edna M.(Kilbreth) Hamlin passed away on December 20. Marilyn was a longtime resident of Sanford, Maine prior to moving away to Boston, Mass., due to declining health. Marilyn was born July 3, 1929, in Oxford, Maine. She attended schools in the Oxford and Windham areas. She attended Brigham Young University, in Provo, Utah for one year. She provided care to individuals living with mental illness or intellectual challenges in her home for more than 30 years. Her greatest joy in life was surrounding herself with her family and loved ones. She enjoyed decorating her home, making it cozy and comfortable with collectibles and antiques which she usually found while bargain hunting at yard sales, auctions, and flea markets. She also sold her antiques and collectibles as a dealer.When she was young, Marilyn was once a personal assistant to the late actress, Bette Davis.In the 1970s, she raised horses -- one of which --"Brave Will" was a champion performer in the sulky harness races at Scarborough Downs. Marilyn had an opera-worthy soprano voice. She sang often, at church, in her community and at home. She enjoyed researching her genealogy with her sisters. Her talents also included cooking, gardening, sewing, ballroom dancing, and using power tools to complete a multitude of do-it-yourself home projects. She had a flair for fashion and loved pretty dresses and nice clothes.Marilyn was highly active in the Sanford, Maine Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, until her health began failing more than ten years ago. She was pre-deceased by her sisters Leahtine McInnis, Dorothy Long, and Janet Provencher, and by her brothers Lee Hamlin and Dana T. Hamlin.Marilyn was loving mother to six children: Sharon A. Sledge, of Boston, Mass.; Michael L. Wallace of Portland, Me.; Ronald W. Wallace (deceased); Patricia E. Wallace, of Las Vegas, NV.; Robert F. Wallace, Jr., of Greensboro, N.C; Tasha M. Poindexter, of Boston, Mass., She also has five grandchildren, Frank Sledge III, Devin R. Wallace and Rochelle N. Wallace, Noah Poindexter, Samuel Poindexter, and a great-grandson. She is also survived by a sister, June Hamlin, some cousins, and many nieces and nephews.A memorial service will be held in the spring at the Sanford Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.Condolences may be expressed at www.blackfuneralhomes.com
