Marilyn England Samuell, 80, of Sanford, died Sunday, May 27th at South Portland Nursing Home after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Marilyn was born in Sanford on March 24, 1938, the daughter of Ervin (Buster) and Dora Legere England. She was a lifelong Maine resident and a graduate of Sanford High School. She married J. Miller Samuell, her husband of 53 years, on February 15, 1958 and raised her family of six in Westbrook and Sanford, Maine. When her children were young, she was employed at Saunders Brothers in Westbrook and later worked at Augat Inc. retiring as a production planner.Marilyn was a talented crafter who had a wicked sense of humor and loved to laugh. She also enjoyed cooking and entertaining her large family. Her hobbies included reading, quilting and knitting. Her many crafts became cherished gifts to family and friends. She enjoyed a wide range of music from Prince to Boy George and no wedding Marilyn attended was complete without hearing the song "Proud Mary." She enjoyed frequent trips to the beach with her husband and family members whenever they visited Maine. She especially enjoyed attending the sporting events of her children and grandchildren.A devout Catholic and Eucharistic Minister at St. Ignatius Church, Marilyn was also an early member of the local Lay Carmelites. She professed in 2009. This community was an important part of her life and she cherished the friends she made there.Marilyn was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, J. Miller Samuell and her grandson Samuel Perry.Survivors include her sisters Phyllis Elliot, Shirley Turner, and Barbara Hughes, and her six children, Bethann Rohlfing and her husband John of St. Louis, MO, Maryleigh Holmes and her husband Andrew of Hollis, ME, Joseph Miller Samuell Jr. and his wife Debbie of Coventry, R.I., Holly Hebert and her husband Tim of Charlotte, N.C., Stephen Samuell and his wife Maureen of Saratoga Springs, N.Y. and Leiann Bammel and her husband Dale of Sanford, ME; and 12 grandchildren who range in age from 13 to 35. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 15, 2018 at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Notre Dame Church, located on Payne Street in Springvale. Interment will immediately follow at the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Springvale.
