Marie Irene Y. St. Cyr
Marie Irene Yolande St. Cyr, 83, of Sanford, died on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at the Greenwood Center in Sanford.Irene was born on February 10, 1930 in Madawaska, Maine, one of 19 children. She grew up in Madawaska and attended local schools. When she was 17 years old she and some friends moved to Sanford to find work in the local textile mills. She had several jobs before going to work at General Electric where she was employed for 39 years until her retirement. A year after she retired, Irene and her husband relocated to Ocala, Florida. She lived in Florida for 20 years before returning to Maine in 2009 to be closer to family. Irene was an avid flower gardener, she loved going on walks and spending time with her family. Holidays were always a favorite time of hers. She took great pride in her decorations and hosting the holiday gatherings. Irene was a devout Catholic and very active in the pro-life movement. She traveled all over the country attending various pro-life events and rallies. She always had a positive attitude and an excellent sense of humor. She was very witty and always had a funny comment for any situation. As she got older she enjoyed playing cards with her friends, especially canasta. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Irene was predeceased by her husband, Florian St. Cyr and by a great-granddaughter, Kaya Ruby Robertshaw.Irene is survived by two children, Suzanne Torno and her husband Charles M. of Lebanon and David St. Cyr of Standish; five grandchildren Victoria Torno, Soren Torno, Lindsey Stockwell and her husband Ira III of Standish, Michael St. Cyr of Saco and Johnathan St. Cyr, stationed at Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, South Carolina and two great-grandchildren, Celia Leighton and Robert L. Torno.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 26th at 12:00 Noon at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish at Holy Family Church, 66 North Avenue, Sanford.
