Marie E. Clancy

Marie E. Clancy, 85, a longtime resident of Springvale, more recently of Marian Manor in South Boston, MA, and formerly of Paterson, NJ, died January 22 at Marian Manor.She was born in Princeton, NJ on October 7, 1925, the daughter of George W. L. and Marie (Desarmo) Page.Marie was widely known for her many years of dedicated service to veterans and to her community. She volunteered at area Veterans Administration hospitals in Maine and New Hampshire and served as life member on the National Executive Committee of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. Through her efforts and hard work, she assisted in the development of the recently dedicated Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Springvale. The main entrance roadway into the cemetery bears her name.She also served as the director of the Sanford Food Pantry for over a decade, volunteered numerous hours at the Shriners Orthopedic Hospital and Burn Center and served as the Past Queen of the Cairo Temple of the Daughters of the Nile in Watertown, NY. Marie was nominated for the WCSH Channel 6 Jefferson Award in 1998 and was recognized by the York County Area Chapter of the American Red Cross for assistance she provided during the ice storm of 1998. Marie was also the recipient of the 2005-2006 Citizen of the Year Award by the Kiwanis Club of Sanford, Maine.Her husband, John Patrick Clancy, an army veteran of World War II and Korea, formerly of Woburn, MA, died previously. She was also predeceased by parents, by her sisters Mary Helen Page, Nancy B. Hopper, Alice D. Blue, Betty L. Hopewell and her brothers Joseph W. Page, Felix "Phil" Page, Bruce J. Page, Henry W. Page and Guy K. Page.Survivors include her daughter, Mary Ann Bourke Clancy of Dorchester, MA, her favorite nephew Mike Clancy and his wife Linda of Stapleton, GA, her sisters Helen R. MacIndoe of Whitehall, PA, Shirley Snyder of Edison, NJ, her brother Charles Z. Page of Mount Vision, NY and many other family members in the US and Ireland.Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday from 4-7 PM and on Tuesday from 9 to 10:30 AM at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11:00 AM at the Notre Dame Church of St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, 10 Payne Street, Springvale. Burial will be in the spring in Notre Dame Cemetery. Prayers offered for the happy repose of her soul would be most appreciated.
