Marian A. Dorman
Marian Ames Dorman (97) formerly of Acton, ME passed away peacefully at the Fairfax Nursing Center, Fairfax, VA with her family at her side on Friday, August 26, 2011. Marian was born in Salem, MA on May 16, 1914.Upon graduating from Simmons College in 1936 with a degree in Public Health Nursing she did her training at Children's Hospital, Boston, MA. She was the Boston Public Health nurse for the North End prior to working as the visiting nurse for the Women's Friend Society in Salem, MA.In 1938 she married Kenneth Dorman of Salem, MA who passed away in 2005. Marian and Ken moved to Springvale, ME in 1952. Later they moved to Cumberland, RI and Seekonk, MA. Finally they moved to Acton, ME where they restored an old farmhouse and retired.She is survived by two daughters, Judith D. Moulton (David) of Burke, VA and Priscilla D. Kirby of Natick, MA.Marian had five grandchildren--Susan Brown (Alex) of Clifton, VA; Nancy Akison (Dana) of Columbus, OH; Scott Moulton (Michelle) of Charlotte, NC; Gregory Kirby of Waltham, MA; Christopher Kirby (Rebecca) of Salt Lake City, UT.She left four great grandchildren - Christopher Brown, Cassidy Brown, Sienna Moulton and Zachary Moulton.Marian enjoyed knitting, sewing, quilting, crocheting and hooking rugs. She hooked a rug for an heirloom for each daughter and each grandchild.The Acton Fair honored Marian with a blue ribbon for her prize-winning apple pie. For many years she helped with judging in the exhibition hall.She was a member of the Social Order of the Beauceant, a member of the Goodall Hospital Auxillary, and an active member of the Acton-Shapleigh Historical Society. Marian was a lifelong member of the Tabernacle Church of Salem, MA and a friend of the Acton Congregational Church, Acton, ME where she baked for church suppers and helped with the Sunday morning coffee hour. A graveside service will take place this Friday at 12noon at the Riverside Cemetery in Springvale. Friends are invited to visit with the family beginning at 11AM until 11:45AM at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale.Donations in her memory may be made to the Acton Food Pantry, c/o Acton Congregational Church, P.
