Margarete E. Mello

Margarete E. Mello, 79 of Sanford died at Southern Maine Medical Center on Friday the 27th of July. She was born to Anna and Carl Stephan on the 9th of July 1933 in the small town of Neuhammer Kreis Oppeln, Oberschlesien, Germany.She first came to Maine with her Husband and three children in 1963.Margarete worked as a dress maker at Jagger MIlls for many years before taking a position with Sprague Electric, where she worked until her retirement. She occupied her time with landscaping, painting, crafting and gardening. Margarete was most proud of earning her citizenship in her adopted land that she so loved; America.She was preceded in death by her eldest son Erhard J Mello and her husband John Sr.She is survived by her son John Mello and his wife Lisa of Montana, her estranged son Carl Mello of Maryland, niece Charlene Knawer and her Fiance Troy Bowen of Wells Maine.A graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 2nd at 11AM at Oakdale Cemetery.Arrangements are under the direction of the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider donations in her memory to the Wounded Warrior Program 200 Stovall St., Suite 7N57, Alexandria, VA 22332-5000.
