South Portland - Margaret “Peggy” Connolly, a compassionate and resilient woman born to Philip and Eileen Connolly on April 22, 1955, in Portland, passed away surrounded by her loving family on June 15, 2023. A lifelong resident of South Portland, Peggy was the glue that held her family together, always putting others before herself. Peggy’s warm and captivating presence made her a cherished friend and family member to many. Peggy loved living in South Portland and was excited to take over the family home on School Street. This new home soon became a place to gather, to celebrate holidays, and to make countless memories. Peggy created a judge free zone that everyone knew they were welcomed regardless of their circumstances. 145 School Street was well known to many and the good times will never be forgotten. Grammy/Meme’s heart was truly invested in her children and grandchildren, and she found immense joy in watching them play sports and dance. Her greatest memories include watching her own kids compete on the hard wood and the field. Watching all her grandkids excel on the dance floor, basketball court, baseball and soccer field, and the golf course kept her happy and content. Peggy’s easygoing nature and love for simple things in life-such as quietness, pizza, beer, and the peacefulness of the beach made her a pleasure to be around. She loved challenging herself with crosswords and was always up for sitting with Herbie and working on a puzzle. Peggy’s never give up attitude is something that her children and siblings admired. While the last few years were challenging, memories that stand out include Peggy and her best friend/sister Di and their natural ability to dress up and play make believe with Coco, Syd, and Laney. She continued to “roll with the punches” even when the odds were stacked against her. With her and Quincy’s love for baseball, it could be said she struck out swinging. But it was one hell of an at bat. She will forever be remembered as an avid Red Sox fan, trusted friend, devoted grandmother, loyal sister, and a loving mother. Peggy is survived and greatly missed by her life partner, Herbie Swift; her children Heather Seavey and husband Jim, Johnny Coyne and partner Megan Tetrault, Sherry Coyne; her grandchildren Quincy, Dakoda, Sydney, Delaney and Geno; her siblings Betty McGovern and partner Steve Whitaker, Marty Connolly and wife Gwen, Di Casey and husband Richie, Flip Connolly and wife Cissy and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Philip and Eileen Connolly. Visiting Hours celebrating Peggy's life will be held at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, from 3PM-6PM immediately followed by a Memorial Service. Relatives and friends are encouraged to share memories to celebrate Peggy.
