Marcel R. Baillargeon

Marcel R. Baillargeon, 72, of Alfred, passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2012. He was born in Biddeford, a son of Urbain and Laurette (Demeule) Baillargeon. He attended local Biddeford schools. At the age of 17 years old he entered the Navy and completed boot camp training in Bainbridge, MD. He was then transferred to Norfolk Naval Station in Virginia. After a tour of duty he attended Naval Aviation Photosphere School in Norman, OK. He was later transferred to Oakland, CA, where he served on the USS Cape Esperance TCVU-88. He then served a tour of duty at Coronado Naval Amphibious Base in Coronado, CA. He then attended 16 & 35 mm Movie Projection School at the Service School Command in San Diego, CA, USS Preston DD-795 out of Long Beach, CA. He then went to Brementon, WA, where he was on the pre-commissioning crew for the USS Sacramento and became a plank owner. He then worked in the pre-commissioning unit for the USS John F. Kennedy CVA-67 and was a plank owner on the USS Lynde McCormick DDG-8 out of San Diego, CA where he retired in February of 1976 after 20 years of service. He then went to work at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Supply Department from 1982 to 2001 retiring at the age of 62.He and his wife, Carmen then moved to Alfred and built their retirement home. They enjoyed traveling and visited many of the 50 states, including Alaska and Hawaii. They also travelled abroad to Italy, France and Spain.He made his Cursillo in 1979 in Augusta and then served as a director of all transportation arrangements from 1982 to 1983. He became a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter #19 in 1990.He owned a cottage of Embden Pond which brought him great joy for over 20 years. It was a place where all were welcome. Many family and friends enjoyed snowmobiling, ice fishing, skating, sledding and hunting during the winters and swimming, boating, fishing, tubing and horse shoes during the summers. Embden Pond was a place of comfort and joy which Marcel loved sharing.He is predeceased by his father, Urbain who passed away in 2000, sister, Priscilla Hansen who passed away in 2011.He is survived by his mother, Laurette of Hills Beach in Biddeford, his wife, Carmen (Godbout) Baillargeon of Alfred, three sons, Corbin Mark Baillargeon of Fremont, CA, Jerry Gendreau and his wife, Heidi of Alfred, Mike Gendreau of Saco, three daughters, Terry Eyles and her husband, Mark of Saco, Diane Frampton and her husband Kurt of Topsfield, MA, Nichole Damigella and her husband Greg of Topsfield, MA, two brothers, Paul Baillargeon and his wife, Louise of Warren and Michael Baillargeon of Sanford, three sisters, Joan and her husband, Paul Dallaire of Hills Beach, Diane and her husband, Alain Oller of Illinois and Pauline and her husband, William Mols of Alabama, ten grandchildren, five great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8PM at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home.
