SANFORD— Manuel “Manny” DeAmaral, 77, of Sanford, died Tuesday March 21 in Portland.
He was born April 12, 1945 in Fall River, Massachusetts the son of Manuel and Mary (Camara) DeAmaral. He grew up on a farm in Rehoboth, Massachusetts and entered the U.S. Air Force in 1965. Manny served over twenty three years, retiring with the rank of Tech Sergeant in 1989. After his retirement, He earned an Associates Degree at Southern Maine Community College. Manny returned to Sanford and became active in his church, the Knights of Columbus, the Sanford VFW, the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion. He also became an accomplished photographer, having many photos published in the Coastal Star.
Mr. DeAmaral was predeceased by three brothers, George, Daniel and Joseph DeAmaral.
Manny is survived by his sisters, Lillian Pierce, Dorothy Moreau of Attleboro, MA, Elizabeth Ireland and her husband Allen of East Waterboro and Patricia Rodriguez of Pawtucket, RI as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be at the Carll Heald and Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale on Friday March 31 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church on Saturday April 1 at 10:00am. Burial will be in the spring at the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
