Madeline Cormier Pope
Madeline Cormier Pope, 95, of Sanford, passed away at the home of her niece on Saturday July 30, 2011. She was born in Portland on September 2, 1915 a daughter of the late Philip and Ida (Sonier) Cormier. She moved to Sanford as a young girl and graduated from Sanford High School in 1933. She then spent the next seven years at St. Joseph's convent in Berwick. For many years she worked in the shoe shops as a burler and mender. An avid reader, she loved crossword puzzles and word games. She also enjoyed playing cribbage and scrabble with family and friends.She is predeceased by her husband, William Pope who passed away in 1983, one brother, P. Clifford Cormier who passed away in 1998 and nephew, Kip Cormier who passed away in 2009.She is survived by Kip's wife, Joyce Cormier of Sanford, nephew, Douglas and wife, Dottie Burrows Cormier of Cumberland, niece, Marilyn Dinardo of Sanford, and a good friend Gabriel Garneau of Sanford, seven grand nephews and nieces and eight great grand nephews and nieces.A graveside service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM at St. Ignatius Cemetery in Sanford.Arrangements are under the direction of the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford.Condolences may be expressed at www.blackfuneralhomes.com
