Lucy Colello Richio

PORTLAND - Lucy Colello Richio, 93, of Portland, died on December 28, 2012. She was born in Portland, a daughter of Donato and Concetta Tudesca Colello. She attended local schools and graduated from Portland High School in 1936. She married Joseph A. Richio and they raised their family in Portland. He predeceased her in 2000. As a young woman Lucy worked for her brother at Commercial Fruit Co. She also worked for a time as a clerk at Carvall Plumbing and in sales at the Curtain Shop for ten years. Lucy was primarily a devoted homemaker. She was a lifelong communicant of St. Peter's Catholic Church and was very active in the church community as a member of the St. Peter's Sodality, serving as Eucharistic Minister and working for the annual St. Peter's Bazaar. As a volunteer at Mercy Hospital Lucy took pride in the recognition she received for 1000 hours of service. Besides her husband and son Joseph, Lucy was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Hayes and Lou Orlando; and a brother, Tony Colello. She is survived by two daughters, Eugenia Richio Coughlin and her husband, Sam, of Estero, Florida; and Concetta Richio and her longtime companion, Robert Qually, of Chicago, IL; three sons, Nicholas Richio and his wife, Jo-Anne, of Portland; Donald Richio and his wife, Nikki, of Portland; and John and his wife, Holly, of Portland; ten grandchildren; John Coughlin, Jennifer Richio Allee, Matthew and Nicholas Richio, Kristina Grabarz, Jackie Richio, Michelle Lamott, Erin Richio, Dante and Lucas Richio; and nine great-grandchildren.. The family wishes to thank St. Joseph's Manor for the compassionate care she received.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Peter's Church, 72 Federal St., Portland. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, South Portland. If desired, memorial donations may be made to Mercy Hospital, 144 State Street, Portland, Maine 04101.Online condolences may be expressed below.
