Lucien J. "Little Joe" Houle, 86, of Sanford, died October 29 at the Goodall Hospital in Sanford.He was born in Sanford on August 27, 1924, the son of Paul and Maria (Laroche) Houle and attended school in Sanford.For 25 years, he owned and operated Houle's Package Store on Cottage Street in Sanford. He then worked for a time at the Brooks Woolen Mill. Throughout his working life, he always worked on the side as a carpenter and handyman.He was a communicant of Holy Family Church and was a member of the Sanford council of the Knights of Columbus.He was predeceased by a brother, Raymond Houle and by two sisters, Rolande Trepanier and Diane Goulet.Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Lucille (Plamondon) Houle of Sanford, son Rene Houle and his wife Alice, son Michael Houle and his wife Linda, son David Houle and his wife Denise, all of Sanford, daughter Carlene Lacroix and her husband Leo of Lebanon, brother Benoit Houle sisters Jaqueline Morin, Florence Trepanier, Yvette Lemieux, Pierette Brunelle, Rita Boisvert, all of Canada, 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday November 19 at 11:00 AM at the Holy Family Church of St. Therse of Lisieux Parish in Sanford, where the family will greet relatives and friends beginning at 10:00. Burial will follow in St. Ignatius Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Elks Lodge in Sanford.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Greenwood Center Residents Council, 1142 Main Street, Sanford, ME 04073.Arrangements are under the direction of the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford.
