Lucien Camire

Lucien P. Camire, "Smokey ", 77, of Sanford, passed away on Monday April 6, 2009 at Maine Medical Center in Portland surrounded by his loving family following a lingering illness. He was born in Biddeford on September 11, 1931, a son of Wilfred and Rose (Moreau) Camire. He was the youngest of 10 children. He attended school in Biddeford.On September 2, 1950, he married the former Lucille Morin in Sanford and has resided here ever since. He was a devoted husband and a loving father of one son and five daughters. He enjoyed and took part in the restoration and building of his children's homes. He enjoyed watching professional wrestling and got most of all his grandsons interested into the sport. He enjoyed reminicing about his many trips to Canada and Florida. He worked at Bate's Mills, the Waterboro Tannery and at St. Ignatius Church in several capacities. He retired from the Sanford School Department as a custodian. He was communicant of St. Ignatius Church.He is predeceased by one daughter, Rachel (Camire) Martin who passed away in 2003. He is also predeceased by seven brothers, Leo, Paul, Girard, Florien, Romeo, Conrad and Renald all of Biddeford. He is also predeceased by two sisters, Rose Thibodeau and Jeanne Lebrun.He is survived by his devoted loving wife of 58 years, Lucille Camire of Sanford, his loving children, Gerard Camire and his wife, Heidi, Pauline Smith and her husband, Danny, Nancy Gendreau and her husband, Paul Jr., Diane Therrien and her husband, Mark, Rosie Brown and her husband, Steve, 14 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, one son in law, Richard Martin, and a special niece, Janice Presby of Florida.Visiting hours will be on Sunday, April 12, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 11AM at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church in Sanford.
