Louise Ann Morang

August 24, 1948 ~ December 3, 2023
Resided in:
Gray, Maine
Gray-Louise Ann Paoletti Morang, our kind-hearted and loving wife, mom, grandmother, sister, cousin, and friend, died suddenly on December 3, 2023 at the age of 75. Since her retirement in 2013 she and her husband of 53 years, Bob Morang, enjoyed kayaking on various lakes in Maine, hiking, singing in Maine Music Society chorale, and attending their four grandchildrens’ school events.
Born on August 24, 1948 in Millinocket, Maine, to Louis (d. 1993) and Clara Paoletti (d. 2013) she is a 1966 graduate of Schenck High School in East Millinocket and a 1969 graduate of Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Portland. While a nursing student, she met the love of her life, Robert Morang, a music student at Gorham State Teachers College (now University of Southern Maine), and they were married on June 27, 1970.
She was a proud nurse for over 40 years in all kinds of settings, including Togus VA Medical Center and the Millinocket and East Millinocket school systems, but her main career was in the field of occupational health. In 1984 she began work in health services at Maine Yankee in Wiscasset, and was there into the 90s. If you were a contractor or employee during that time, you probably didn’t set foot at the site without first visiting Louise for a physical and a drug test, and if you were injured, she was there for triage. She maintained many friendships not only with her Maine Yankee friends but also in subsequent jobs. She continued in occupational health, and up until her retirement was the practice manager for the pediatric group at the Martin’s Point Healthcare office in Brunswick.
While they enjoyed living for 20 years on Maranacook Lake in Readfield, she and Bob moved to Gray to be closer to their daughters' families and kept busy attending their grandchildrens’ sports and music events. A true animated Italian, Louise enthusiastically clapped and cheered at basketball, track, and swim meets, and many music concerts. Among the many things she was able to enjoy in the very recent weeks was a trip to see her grandson at College of William & Mary in Virginia, her granddaughter’s violin performance, Thanksgiving with her daughters’ families, her granddaughter’s basketball game at St. Joseph’s College, and her other granddaughter’s UMaine basketball game on November 30.
She will be terribly missed by her husband of 53 years, Robert Morang of Gray; daughter Lisa Leighton and her family: husband Chip and their children Matthew and Laura, of Cape Elizabeth; daughter Allison Talon and her family: husband Aaron, and their daughters Hannah and Sarah, of Windham; her big sister Mary Nadeau of The Villages, FL; her little brother Michael and his wife, Claudia, of Litchfield, NH; and many cousins, nieces and nephews, and her dear friends.
Louise’s family would also like to thank the lovely people at Sweetser’s Apple Barrel Orchards in Cumberland who assisted Bob until medics arrived, the Cumberland policeman who provided transportation for Bob, and the staff at the Maine Medical Center Emergency Department for their compassionate care.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on January 12, 2024 at 11:00 am at Holy Martyr’s Church, 266 Foreside Road, Falmouth, ME. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home, 1024 Broadway, South Portland, ME. I met Louise as a fellow nurse working with healthcare auditing for an insurance company and then as a friend – getting together regular with our HEDIS gals for lunch. She always had so many warm stories to share about her grandchildren or Bob – especially playing golf with Bob on those warmer days the past few years.
Loving, Living, Laughing
Bob and family – sorry for your loss. Louise was a sweetheart.
A candle to burn bright for a most amazing woman.
My thoughts are with you- so sad to hear of Louise’s passing. A bright light has gone from this world-
May the love and care and sweet memories that you shared provide you with some comfort at this difficult time.
With Sympathy, Chris Schoenberg ( I worked with Louise years ago)
We would say “Thank You” for being in our presence. You are one of those rare individuals held in such high regard by all who knew you. We have been so fortunate to be your friends.
We would say Thank you…thank you for enriching our lives with your presence! You have always been one of those rare individuals held in such high regard by all who knew you. We were so fortunate to be Your friends.
Louise’s devotion to her calling as a health provider was amazing on so many levels. Not only did she have the expertise to help others through her nursing skills and continued exploration into the health field, she selflessly gave of her time and spirit.
In addition to sharing her love with family and friends, Louise’s legacy embraces living life to its fullest, and sharing that enthusiasm with all who knew her….her smile would light up a room.
Lighting this candle for Louise is a reminder of the light she brought to this world through her love for family and friends.
We are deeply saddened by Louise’s passing. Bob and Louise have been dear friends for many years. We have such fond memories of attending the musicals at The Maine State Music Theatre together. We shared joy and laughter, then met at the Seadog Restaurant to continue our precious time together. Whether we were relaxing at the lake or sharing events of our families, it was always a joyous time. Louise was the pure embodiment of intellect and caring spirit. Words cannot begin to convey our sorrow in losing this special woman. We pray for peace and acceptance for the family. I have no doubt that Louise is with our Lord in heaven.

Louise was kind and caring to all.
I knew Louise from NWUC choir and from Martins Point. Allen and I carpooled with them to MMS rehearsals and concerts and will miss her dearly
Prayers for comfort and peace
I’m so very sorry to hear that Louise has left you. She was the little sister to my friend May Paoletti Nadeau. I grew up in East Millinocket and saw Louise at times when I returned for reunions. She was a lovely person and I’m very sorry to hear of her loss.
Ohhhh I am so sorry to hear of my dear nursing classmate’s passing. I sense that this was a very sudden event…. good for her …but not so good for the family she left behind. Sudden death of a loved one is so different to come to terms with …. if ever. I am from Island Falls and felt a great bond with all the Millinocket gals … Peggy Mascetta and Norma Chasse …who went to the big city of Portland to go to Mercy School of Nursing back in 1966. I remember Louise for her great kindness and compassionate care and her beautiful smile. I am so very sorry for your loss. May she be surrounded by the angels and Gods shining light.

I met Louise when I moved to Maine in 1990. We first met through work as we were both involved in occupational health. We also sang together in the Augusta Symphony chorus and chamber singers. I also got to know Bob through the ASO, when he became our accompanist. Louise helped me to get a job with Martins’ Point in Brunswick. She was a good friend and a wise mentor with a kind heart and a great laugh. My heartfelt sympathy to Bob and the girls. She loved you all so much.
Louise was a dear friend of my sister, Dawn McLean while growing up in East Millinocket.
I remember her as always so kind and lovely.
My condolences to Bob and family.

Still in shock as thought all us friends would live together. Louise was so much fun, always upbeat and she and Bob were a great couple and so proud of the kids and grandkids. Missed but never foregotten.
Former co-worker at Maine Yankee.
Condolences to Louise’s loving family.
Love and support to you Bob and your family at this time of sudden loss of Louise. In time you will get over the loss but will never forget the love of this wonderful women
I’ve enjoyed getting to know Louise as a fellow alto in the MMS Chorale. I send my heartfelt condolences to Bob and the family. We will miss her voice and her friendly presence!
I was a classmate of Louise at Mercy Hospital School of Nursing.
We most recently saw each other at our 50th class reunion in 2019. I have enjoyed following her and her active life through her Facebook page. Rest in Peace, dear Louise.
