Louise Mallinson Jagger
Louise Mallinson Jagger, 93, of Springvale, passed away on January 24 at The Pavilion in Sanford.She was born in Sanford on February 4, 1913, the daughter of Edgar and Sarah Ellen (Hill) Mallinson. She attended local schools and graduated from Sanford High School in 1930. She was a 1934 graduate of Bates College and attended post-graduate studies at Harvard University.Initially, she taught school at a small coastal town in Maine for one year. Following this, she returned to Sanford to teach at the high school. During the 1950's, she was the pianist at several theatrical productions at the school. During the summer months she traveled extensively in the British Isles, Europe, Bermuda and the Caribbean. In 1939, she was on the last passenger ship to leave England before the outbreak of World War II. She retired from teaching in 1973.Following her retirement she continued her travels, sometimes with friends but many times alone. Louise was truly a world traveler and with her experience, managed to travel with one suitcase. Her last trip was to Russia in 1995.In 1978 she married Winston R. Jagger who passed away in 1992. With this marriage she was adopted by an extended loving family who included her in all their activities. Louise was a member of the Maine Teachers Association, the National Education Association and the Retired Teachers Association of York County. She was also a member of The College Club, Bates Alumni Association, and a member of Clover Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron and for many years, its organist.She was a life-long member of St. George's Episcopal Church, the St. Elizabeth's Guild and was also the church organist and choir director.Surviving her is a stepson C. Thomas Jagger and his wife Judith, 2 step granddaughters, Kimberly Jagger LaChance, her husband Daniel and their daughter Ashley Victoria LaChance, Kathryn Jagger Brock, her husband Adam and their son Jonathan Thomas Brock all of Springvale, and a cousin, Rosena Wedge of Michigan.Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 3-7 PM at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30 AM at St. George's Episcopal Church in Sanford. Burial will be in the spring in Oakdale Cemetery in Sanford. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made on Louise's name to the Activities Fund at The Pavilion, c/o Maine Bank and Trust, 1105 Main Street, Sanford, ME 04073.
