SANFORD—Louis Roger Lacroix, 82, of Sanford, died Wednesday July 30. 2025 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.
He was born in Sanford, May 23 1943 the son of Marcel “Pete” and Cecile (Robichaud) Lacroix. Louis graduated from St. Ignatius School and enlisted in the U.S. Army a few years later. He served during the Vietnam War as a Helicopter Crew Chief, attaining the rank of SP5. He spent 11 months in Vietnam. After his discharge, he worked at several jobs, including his own auto repair shop. He eventually settled into a job with the Sanford Water Treatment Facility where he obtained several certifications and retired after over 20 years of service.
When he wasn’t working, Louis enjoyed hunting, fishing and working on his various car projects. He was a caring, generous man who always thought long and hard before he spoke. When choosing a card for someone, he always took plenty of time and made sure it was perfect for the recipient.
Louis was predeceased by his brothers, Gerald and Michael Lacroix and his second wife, Michelle.
He is survived by his sons, Keith Lacroix and his wife Christine of Sanford and Kevin Lacroix of Portland; his grandchildren, Faith Yates and her husband Eric, Robert Goodwin and his wife Amanda Knowles and Cassidy Lacroix; six great-grandchildren; his siblings, Lorina Dugre, Norman, Leo and Richard Lacroix and Theresa Tobias; his caring companion, Peggy Brin and the mother of his children, Patricia Wright.
A service will be held at the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery on Friday August 8 at 2:00 PM at the committal shelter.

Lou was a good friend to me in many ways after I moved to Sanford, I will always remember him for his kindness and generosity. We were both aviators as crew members on helicopters. RIP Lou
