Resided in: Sanford, Maine

Beloved husband and father, Louis George Melanson, joined his loving parents Arthur and Lea in Heaven on January 6th, 2025.

Louis was born In Sanford, Maine on May 20th, 1930. He attended local schools, then joined the Air Force, where he honorably served as a communications officer during the Korean Conflict. After his Air Force service, he then worked, also in communications, at the US submarine Naval Base in New London, Connecticut. In 1956, he returned to Sanford and married his love, Lorraine Helen Dubois, who is also from Sanford. Having transferred to the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, he remained there until he retired in 1986, after 30 years of exemplary service. A hard and enterprising worker, Louis also worked as the caretaker of a summer camp in Wells and sold Christmas trees during the Yuletide season. He also worked part-time at his brother Armand’s gas station, where he once pumped gas for actress Bette Davis.

In service to his Catholic faith, Louis and his wife led several pilgrimages from Sanford to Saint Joseph’s Oratory in Montreal, to Our Lady of Fatima in Portugal, to the Eureka Springs Passion Play in Arkansas, and to Our Lady of the Cape in Quebec. They also served in the Eucharistic Ministry in their Church, and he served as an usher and collector. In his spare time, he was an avid bowler, his many trophies adorning the family living room, and he loved watching bowling on television. He loved the beach and the lake and could always be found in the summer months lounging in his pool. He said the rosary every day, praying for his children’s health and protection, and for those less fortunate. His wife Lorraine by his side for 69 years, he continued to laugh and smile, even at the end, and he quietly passed over in his sleep at the age of 94.

Louis is predeceased by his siblings, Albert, Joseph, Marie, Yvonne, Irene, Donatile, Alice, Mike, and Imelda, and is survived by his brother Armand. His wife Lorraine holds him fast in her heart, as do his children, Elaine, Jonathan, James, and Peter.
