Lorraine C. Yeaton

Lorraine Yeaton entered heaven's gates on November 26, 2017 from her home in Acton, Maine following a period of illness. She was born on September 24, 1933 to Ralph and Dorothy Dunnells and lived in Newfield at the family homestead until the fire of 1947, and then moved to Acton where she spent the rest of her life. Shortly after graduating from Sanford High School in 1950 she met and married the love of her life, Robert R. Yeaton, Sr. She raised her family in Acton, and became an integral part of the community. In her younger years she was involved in the Farm Bureau women's group, was a 4-H leader, was the Acton Librarian, and drove a school bus for the Acton School Department. For many years she and her family were a part of the Acton Fair in charge of daily cleaning of the grounds. Lorraine became much more involved in the town government as she became a prominent figure at the Acton Town Hall. She was a member of the Board of Selectmen, Secretary to the Board of Selectmen, and became a fountain of knowledge for anyone seeking information on town history. Her friendly and cheerful manner endeared her to hundreds of people over the years as she served the town and radiated love for her community. Lorraine was also a very active member of the Acton Congregational Church where she served on several boards and committees, was a moderator for meetings, and an ever present face in the choir. She was especially well known for her Sunday service children's stories which captured the attention and interest of both young and old. Her strong faith was freely shared as she gave glory to God for the many difficulties and physical challenges that He had brought her through. An avid reader, Lorraine always had a book by her bed, and was frequently caught in her bed with her head up on her elbow, an open book in front of her, her dog at her feet, and her eyes closed! Lorraine's love of family topped everything, as she found so much joy in her children's, grandchildren's, and great-grandchildren's many accomplishments. She could almost always be found with a baby in her arms, a child at her side, or enjoying a cup of coffee with someone at the table. Summers would always find Lorraine with a cottage full of grandchildren at her much loved special place, Empire Grove Methodist Campground in Poland. Lorraine was predeceased by her husband, Robert; her sister, Mary Dennett; her brother Arnold M. Dunnells; her granddaughter Heather Bshara; nephew Robert Hurst; and her much loved nephew Eric Brazier with whom she shared a very special bond. She will forever be loved and missed by: son, Robert R. Yeaton, Jr. and wife Joy; daughter-in-law Evelyn (Fran) Yeaton; daughter Janice Gallant and husband Lenny; son Bernard Yeaton and wife Mary; daughter Gail Long and husband, Dennis; neice Judith Shain whom she grew up with like a sister, niece Linda Gregoire, grandchildren Heidi Yeaton, Tosha Swisher, Randy Goodwin and wife Jennifer, Robbie Rogers, Bobbi Jo Rogers, Billie Sue Ham, Benjamin Yeaton, Carol Komezubumwe; Dennis Long III, Brian Long, Jessica Long, 22 great grandchildren, 12 great-great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews who had special relationships with "Auntie", and countless friends whose lives she has touched. A celebration of life service will be held for Lorraine at the Acton Congregational Church on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 1 o'clock in the afternoon.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Lorraine to the Eric Brazier Memorial Fund which helps meet the needs of clients at RiverRidge Brain Injury Facility, 3 Brazier Lane, Kennebunk, Maine.
