Lorraine M. Vermette, 91, of Acton, died on Monday, November 25, 2013 at the Greenwood Center in Sanford.Lorraine, lovingly known as "Mem" by her family, was born on December 18, 1921 to Eduard and Olivine (LeBlond) Gilbert in Somersworth, New Hampshire where she grew up and attended local schools. She married Donald Vermette and they moved to South Berwick in 1940 where they raised two children. The couple later relocated to Acton in 1972.Lorraine was a communicant of St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Notre Dame Church in Springvale and had been a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed babysitting, dogsitting and crocheting and she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She devoted her life to caring for her family and friends. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed. Lorraine was predeceased by her brother, Valmore Gilbert.Surviving are her son, Gregory Vermette and his wife June of Acton; her daughter, Donna Muchemore and her husband Douglas of Berwick, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 29th at the Mount Calvary Cemetery located on Maple Street in Somersworth, New HampshireThose planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Maine Children's Cancer Program, 100 Campus Drive, Suite 107, Scarborough, Maine 04074.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.To leave a message of condolence for the family please click on the condolences tab to the left.
