Lorraine Louise Cardone, 85, of Portland, died Friday, April 10, 2015 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on January 1, 1930, in Portland, Maine to Angelo and Margaret Dorothy (Conohan) Cardone. She was a Portland resident for her entire life and a graduate of Portland High School and Northeastern Business School. She worked for Associated Textile, formerly Standard Linen Company, for over 50 years, retiring in 1995 as Office Manager. She was a member of Saint Dominics Parish and the Maine Irish Heritage Center. Lorraine enjoyed baking, knitting and various arts and crafts. She loved animals of all sorts but most of all, her joy in life was her family and her many nieces and nephews. She was deeply loved and respected by her entire family for her generous and caring support that was always given. She is survived by sisters, Dorothy Cardone of Portland, Margaret McFarland and husband Peter of Cape Elizabeth, Madeline Shaw and husband William of East Greenwich, Rhode Island, and brothers, Robert Cardona and wife Delores of Wilsall, Montana, and Paul Cardone of Portland, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and brothers, William, Vincent and Lawrence, all of Portland. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Hospice staff and their Visiting Nurses for the compassionate care and support. Prayers will be recited on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at 10:15AM at the Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11AM at Holy Cross Church, 124 Cottage Rd, South Portland. Burial will follow at New Calvary Cemetery, Broadway, South Portland. She and your family have been a cornerstone of the memories I cherish from my earliest life. Even though we did not see one and other often enough, she is missed.
