Loraine M. Staszko

Loraine M. Staszko, 92, of Cape Elizabeth, died Monday, June 8, 2015 surrounded by her family at The Cedars in Portland. Born in Portland on February 2, 1923, Loraine was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Conley) McCullum. She was raised in Portland and graduated from Portland High School, Class of 1941. She married Julian John Staszko at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on October 27, 1942. He predeceased her on January 12, 1997. Following high school, Loraine worked for New England Telephone Company for 40 years, retiring in 1981. She was an active communicant of St. Bartholomew Church. Loraine was very active in different community organizations. She was involved with the Cape Elizabeth Garden Club, Cape Elizabeth Polls, and St. Bartholomew Womens Club. In addition, she was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, she was a Girl Scout Leader and a past president of the Cape Elizabeth PTA. Loraine was a very generous and giving individual who went out of her way to help others. She also was a volunteer for Preble Street Soup Kitchen. Loraine and her husband enjoyed many years of wintering in Bradenton and St. Petersburg, Florida. In addition to her parents and husband, Loraine was predeceased by her siblings, June Whipple, Jean Donovan, Janet Bassett, John Don McCullum, James McCullum, William McCullum and her daughter-in-law, Mary McAloon Staszko. She is survived by her daughters, Linda Nickerson and husband Bill of Cape Elizabeth, Paula Michael and husband Richard of Cumberland Foreside, Kelly Perkins and husband Kevin of South Portland; sons, Michael Staszko of Cape Elizabeth, Bill Staszko and wife Colleen of Scarborough. Also survived by 9 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Judy Fagone and husband Joe of Portland. Many nieces and nephews. In appreciation for the compassionate care Loraine received, the family gratefully extends a sincere thank you to the staff at Village Crossing in Cape Elizabeth, The Cedars Shapiro Unit and Hospice of Southern Maine. Visiting Hours will be held on Friday from 4-7PM in the Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited at the Funeral Home on Saturday at 9:15AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM at St. Bartholomew Church, 8 Two Lights Rd., Cape Elizabeth. Burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery, Cape Elizabeth.
