Portland - Lois Ann (Goodine) Griffiths, 84, passed away on June 10, 2024, in Portland. Lois was born on November 5, 1939, in Morrell Siding, New Brunswick, Canada, daughter of the late Charles William and Laura (Baker) Goodine. Lois, one of ten siblings, grew up on the family farm in Morrell Siding. She attended a one room schoolhouse as a child and later graduated at age sixteen from South Victoria Regional HS in New Brunswick. She attended Dalhousie University and graduated from the Halifax Infirmary of Medical Technology in 1959. She then moved to Presque Isle and worked as a lab technician at A. R. Gould Memorial Hospital. During those years she met her future husband, Stephen Griffiths, on a blind date. They were married in 1963 and went on to raise four children in the home they loved at 228 State Street in Presque Isle. Lois was an avid gardener and a member of the Presque Isle Garden Club for many years, serving as President in 1980. She was a devout member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where she served as a catechist and Eucharistic minister. She was also a talented seamstress and meticulous homemaker. Lois loved working in her kitchen, cooking or baking for family and friends. However, her greatest joy in later years was spending time with her eight grandchildren who knew and loved her as Nana. Lois is predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Stephen Griffiths; brothers, Dr. Frederick, Carvel, Winston and Merlyn Goodine; sisters, Juanita Clinton and Willa Goodine. She is survived by her children, Ann Peterson (Eric), Matthew Griffiths (Diane), Adam Griffiths (Kathy), and Sarah Griffiths (Donald Borchert); grandchildren, Benjamin and William Peterson, Hunter (Lauren), Kathryn, Andrew, Alden and Harrison Griffiths, and Mamie Borchert; siblings, Bonnie DiQuinzio (Tony), Dr. Glenda Murphy (Tom), and Dalton Goodine (Dawn). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on August 17, 2024, at Saint Mary's Catholic Church, 331 Main St, Presque Isle; interment to follow at Fairmount Cemetery. A reception will be held at The Griffiths House, 228 State St. Presque Isle. Arrangements will be under the direction of Duncan Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, ME.
