Lois S. Farwell, 87, longtime resident of Springvale died Tuesday at Goodall Hospital in Sanford. She was born at home in Springvale, March 28, 1917 a daughter of Edwin L. andFrances I. (Wilkinson) Shaw and had made her childhood home her own. Lois graduated from Sanford High School and worked for over 20 years at Nasson College and Sanford High School in the cafeteria. Mrs. Farwell enjoyed crossword puzzles and watching Jerry Springer and wrestling. She was a longtime member of the VFW Woman's Auxiliary and served as their Chaplain. She also worked many bean suppers at the VFW. She belonged to the "Cooties" - a branch of the VFW Women's club. Being a part of this group allowed Mrs. Farwell to become a collector of ladybugs. Mrs. Farwell was a loving mother and was known through out her family as Gram and to several neighborhood kids. Holidays were a favorite time to gather with her family and friends. She also belonged to the Pythian Sisters, a Christian women's group. Survivors include two sons, Bruce and his wife, Doris Farwell of Springvale and Brian Farwell of Auburn. One daughter, Nancy and her husband, Kenneth Washington of Acton; Four grandsons, Greg and his wife, Kathy Farwell of Springvale; Chris Farwell of Springvale; David and his wife, Melissa Farwell of Lyman and Matthew Washington of Acton; One granddaughter, Lisa Forcier of Springvale; two great granddaughters, Sharlotte and her husband, Brian Dahlen of Springvale and Ashley Farwell of Lyman; two great grandsons, Gregory Farwell, Jr. of Springvale and Jake Farwell of Lyman.She was predeceased by her husband, Clyde Farwell of 25 years in 1964.At Mrs. Farwell's request, services will be private.Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, New England Division, Inc.
