Steep Falls- Leroy Lee A. Jason, Jr., 76, of Steven Lane, died Thursday, December 29, 2016, at his home. Lee was born December 14, 1940, in Pittsfield, the son of Leroy A. Sr. and Dorothy (Maxwell) Jason. He graduated from Portland High School, class of 1956. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He served aboard the USS Campass Island, USS Springfield, USS Boston, and in the Vietnam Theater of operations, the destroyer USS Hawkins and aircraft carrier USS Wasp. His General Quarters station was manning one of the ships guns. He married Mary Ann Fiorentino on August 14, 1963, at the East End Gospel Tabernacle in Portland. Upon return from the War, he attended Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute and received his Associate Degree in Electronics Technology. He then worked at Howards Distributor as a TV repairman, at BEU as a photocopier repairman, then at Saunders Electronics doing electronics manufacturing. He retired in 2011. Lee was a larger than life man whose heart was full of joyful love and caring. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. He was an avid HAM radio operator, call sign KFIG, who participated daily in the Early Bird Broadcasts. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, and target shooting. He was an excellent baker, known for his apple pie and cheese cake. He was a member of the Living Stone Community Church in Standish, the Deering Memorial Post of Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the National Rifle Association. He is predeceased by a half-brother, Neal A. Jason. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Mary Ann; three daughters, Leeann and her husband Dino DiRenzo of Westbrook, Bonnie Linn and her husband Louis Geller of Raymond, and Belinda Jason of Westbrook; and seven grandchildren. A period of visitation will be held from 1:00 3:00 PM, Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at Living Stone Community Church, 711 Ossipee Trail W, Standish. A funeral service will be begin at 3:00 PM. Burial with military honors will be at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road Augusta. Arrangements are by Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland.
