Leroy J. Field died peacefully on January 1, 2015 after a period of declining health.He was born December 28, 1921 to Lora and Frank Field.Roy attended local schools and graduated from Sanford High School in 1939. With the onset of WWII, Roy enlisted into the Army Air Corps in 1942. His expertise in maintaining aircraft brought him to France, Belgium and Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1945.He returned to Sanford, where he met and married Doris Michaud. After holding several jobs, Roy became a pipefitter at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1976.During his retirement, Roy became an avid gardener of flowers at his log cabin on School Street. He enjoyed speaking with the many people who stopped to admire the variety and color of the flowers. More often than not, those admirers left with a sample of his labors.His family and special friends will remember peaceful visits on his back porch appreciating nature, the seasons, watching birds in his many feeders, hearing anecdotes from his varied past and enjoying his good company. He was a loving husband and father, spirited Grampa and dear Old Old Grampa.Roy was predeceased by his wife Doris, a brother, Llewellyn, and his sisters Theo, Evelyn, and Ada. He is survived by his daughter Linda and her companion Patrick Daley of Saco, son George and his wife Diane of Springvale, step-daughter Carol Clough of Sanford, granddaughter Lori Roop and husband Mark of Kennebunk, grandson Eric Belanger and his wife Ashley of Biddeford, and three great-grandchildren Evie, Atticus and Fletcher.At his request, there will be no services at this time. Burial with military honors will take place in the spring at Oakdale Cemetery in Sanford.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Sanford post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, 1 Hutchinson Street, Sanford, ME 04073.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.
