LeRoy W. Barnes

LeRoy W. Barnes, 69, of Sanford and formerly of Glastonbury and Middletown, CT, died Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.Mr. Barnes was born in Waukegan, IL to LeRoy and Gladys Churchill Barnes and attended local schools. He obtained his Bachelor's Degree from Lawrence College in Appleton, WI and graduate degrees from Wesleyan University and Harvard University.LeRoy worked as a teacher at Glastonbury High School before becoming a professor at Middlesex Community College in Middletown CT. He retired to Maine in 1994. LeRoy was an accomplished musician, playing both organ and piano. He was also involved in restoring historic organs throughout New England. Mr. Barnes will be remembered as a kind and loving man who was always looking for an opportunity to teach others. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.Surviving are a daughter, Ann Brookes, of Glastonbury, CT; a son, David Barnes and his wife Amy, of Brentwood, CA; a granddaughter, Mikaila Rose Barnes, of Brentwood, CA; many extended family members and close friends and his dog, Penny the beagle.Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be sent to the local charity of one's choice.
