Leo H. Cabana, 96, of Sanford died on Saturday October 15, 2016 at the Greenwood Center in Sanford. He was born on September 30, 1920 in Sanford Maine to William and Lea (Nadeau) Cabana.Leo graduated from Sanford High School and attended college studying archaeology. Reading about ancient Greece, Rome and Egypt was his passion along with politics.One of nine children he loved reading, singing, listening to operas and a good card game. He worked as a bookkeeper at Genest Concrete and Allaire Construction. After retirement he went back to work in Florida at the Everglade Club in Palm Beach as a security guard. In his later years he also worked part time at Bonanza here in Sanford.He was a very social person and enjoyed gatherings at his summer camp on Round Pond in Newfield where he loved to entertain. He also found relaxation in gardening and fishing. Leo was predeceased by his parents, 3 brothers Robert, Maurice and Wilfred. Survivors are his son Richard Desrochers and wife Brenda from Sanford; 2 grandchildren, Christian from Virginia and Matthew from Washington State. Two sisters, Yvonne Roy and Lucille Cote from Sanford and a sister in law Lucille Caron and her husband Andy from Westbrook and many nieces and nephews.The family would like to express gratitude and appreciation to the staff at Mayflower, Greenwood and Compassus Hospice who provided excellent care to Leo. At Leo's request arrangements are private.
