Lea R. Fournier, 81, of Sanford died peacefully following a lengthy battle with cancer on March 21, 2016 surrounded by her family.Lea was born in Sanford on February 10, 1935 to Camille and Irene Manseau. Her father died when she was very young and her mother eventually met and married Clarence Thyng. Irene and Clarence raised Lea in Sanford where she grew up and attended local schools. In 1955 she married Albert Fournier and together they shared 60 years of marriage and raised four children.Lea worked in the local shoe shops and textile mills for the majority of her life. She enjoyed bowling and camping when she was young and as she grew older she enjoyed crafting, doing puzzles and weekly card games with friends. She had been a member of St. Ignatius and St. Therse of Lisieux Parishes and had enjoyed attending the Trafton Senior Center. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and enjoyed spending time at home with her family and will be dearly missed.Lea was predeceased by her parents; two brothers, Robert and Wilfred Manseau and by a son-in-law, Robert Davis. Surviving are her husband Albert Fournier, Sr. of Sanford; four children, Sandra Davis of Sanford, Susan Roux and her husband Stephen of Sanford, Michael Fournier and his wife Holly of Riverside, California and Albert Fournier, Jr. and his wife Donna of Sanford; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a sister, Jeannette Fletcher and her husband Clifford of Springvale; a special friend, Brenda Osmer of Sanford and many other great friends.There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrate at 10:00 AM on Monday, April 4th at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church, located on North Avenue in Sanford. Interment will be at St. Ignatius Cemetery.Lea's family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Compassus Hospice for the care and compassion shown during Lea's illness.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider sending a memorial contribution to the Maine Children's Cancer Program, 22 Bramhall Street, Portland, Maine 04102.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.To leave a message of condolence for the family please click on the condolences tab to the left.
