Gorham - Lawrence "Larry" E. Durant Sr., 73, died after a short illness on Thursday, March 4, 2021, at Maine Medical Center. Larry was born in Westbrook, Maine on May 9, 1947, the son of the late Hosea and Elizabeth J. (Brown) Durant. He grew up in Portland and attended local schools, including Deering High School. On August 25, 1976, Larry married the love of his life, Brenda J. Durant, together sharing almost forty years of marriage. Larry work many jobs throughout his life where he made lifelong friendships. He worked at the Columbia Grocery Store where he met his best friend, Phil. It was at this job Larry saved up enough money to buy his first car. He also worked at a metro bus station and an oil truck driver before working at Maine Medical Center for many years. His family remembers him being a great storyteller and he always wanted to put a smile on your face. He had a great sense of humor, loved food, and he enjoyed watching old black and white shows such as the Lone Ranger. Larry was predeceased by his wife, Brenda Durant, in February of this year. His family is happy to know that they are reunited. He was also predeceased by his siblings, Barbara King and Robert Durant. He is survived by two daughters, Christine and her husband Larry Jefferson of Westbrook, Rosalyn Durant of Auburn; three sons, Lawrence Jr. and his wife Theresa Durant of Windham, Aaron Durant of Portland, Brian Durant of WA; eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his best friend, Phil Fenderson. Visiting hours celebrating Lawrence's life will be held on Wednesday, March 10, 2021, from 3:00-4:00PM, at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland, ME. A funeral service will immediately follow at 4:00PM, in the chapel. Burial will be held for Brenda and Larry in the spring.
