Laura was born in Biddeford on October 31, 1927 to Henry J. and Eva M. (Thyng) Carignan. She was educated in the Sanford public school system, graduating from Sanford High School, class of 1945. Subsequently, she studied and trained in physical/occupational therapy at a Boston hospital and was later employed in the rehabilitation clinic at Kemper Insurance Company for many years.In addition to enjoying the many cultural events in Boston, she traveled extensively in the United States, Canada and the islands. In her later years she returned to Springvale to care for her aging parents where she continued her career at Goodall Hospital in the physical therapy department. After retiring in 1990, Laura continued to reside at the family home until relocating to Seal Rock, Atlantic Heights in Saco. She was a communicant of Notre Dame Parish in Springvale.Surviving are her brother, Raymond Carignan and his wife Trudy of Dover, New Hampshire; a niece, Leslie Strayer and her husband Jeff of Barrington, NH; three nephews, Douglas Carignan and his wife Susan of Laconia, NH; Neil Carignan and his wife Kim of North Berwick and Dr. Craig Carignan of College Park, MD and several grand nieces and grand nephews.Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, April 19th at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, located at 29 Winter Street in Sanford. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 20th at Riverside Cemetery located on Riverbank Court in Springvale.The family would like to express their highest praise to the staff of Seal Rock Healthcare in Saco for the dedicated care provided during Laura's lengthy illness as well as the staff of Beacon Hospice for the excellent care, kindness and comfort provided to Laura during her final days.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Beacon Hospice, 54 Atlantic Place, Foden Road, South Portland, ME 04106Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.To leave a message of condolence for the family please click on the condolences tab to the left.
