Kenneth Johnson

Kenneth Johnson, 77, of Scarborough, formerly of Westbrook, passed away peacefully at his home on June 6, 2025, surrounded by the family he loved so deeply.

Born in Westbrook, Maine on February 12, 1948, Ken was the beloved son of the late Paul and Dorothy (Thuotte) Johnson. A proud graduate of Westbrook High School, Class of 1966, Ken earned the rank of Eagle Scout and was a member of the prestigious Order of the Arrow. Shortly after high school, Ken answered the call to serve, enlisting in the U.S. Navy, where he rose to the rank of AMS-3. He proudly served aboard the USS Ranger, completing two tours in Vietnam.

Following his military service, Ken earned his bachelor’s degree in Communication from the University of Maine. He went on to build a career at S.D. Warren, where he worked for more than 25 years. Alongside his professional work, Ken remained deeply committed to community service, serving as a volunteer firefighter in Westbrook with the Valentine Hose Company, where he held the rank of Captain.

On August 14, 1971, Ken married the love of his life, Ann Louise Clark, in their hometown of Westbrook. Over the next 53 years, they built a life centered around love, laughter, and unwavering support for one another and their growing family.

Ken was a jack of all trades—a craftsman, banjo player, fly-tier, reader, fisherman, and lifelong learner. He took pride in teaching his grandchildren his hobbies and passions, often joking that he was their YouTube before YouTube existed. A devoted “Parrothead,” Ken loved all things Jimmy Buffett and was known for blasting music while working in his garage.

His sense of humor, quick wit, and occasional heckling at his grandchildren’s sporting events were just part of what made him so memorable. He was a fixture at every game, competition and school event. Family was at the center of Ken’s world—he was their rock, always available, always present. He saved diligently so he could give generously, and there was never a moment when his love and pride for his family didn’t shine through.

Ken was predeceased by his parents and his cherished grandson, Zachary Johnson.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Ann (Clark) Johnson of Scarborough; three children, Aaron Johnson and his wife Stephanie, Miriam Haley and her husband Kevin, and Timothy Johnson and his wife Shannon. He was a proud grandfather to Martin, Megan, Emily, William, Wyatt, and Natalie; and a great-grandfather to Brayden. Ken is also survived by his sister, Sandra Brown, and several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:30PM on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home of South Portland, 1024 Broadway, South Portland, followed by a reception until 6PM. Prayers will be recited at the Funeral Home at 9AM on Friday, June 13, followed by a 10AM Graveside Service with Military Honors at the South Buxton Cemetery, 1187 River Rd, West Buxton.
