Katherine A. Locke

December 17, 1923 ~ February 15, 2017
Portland-Katherine Anna Locke, 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at her home. Katherine was born in Bar Harbor on December 17, 1923. The daughter of Truman and Mary Tracy. She attended the Baxter School for the Deaf in Portland, traveling by train from Bar Harbor seasonally to get her education. In her twenties, Kathy and her parents moved to Portland and later on in life they moved to Boston. There she helped care for her mother and worked as a waitress at Fenway Park. After her father passed, she and her mother moved to Portland where Kathy helped her sister Connie Ham raise her 2 boys, Waddie and Michael. She also had a big influence on Waddie and Joannes children, Great Nephew Mike and Great Niece Missy, as they lived around the corner. She enjoyed visits from her Great- Great Nephews: Dasaun, Jamil, Issac, and Michael. In life she was always there for her family and friends who called her Aunt Kathy or The Boss as she had the run of the house. She enjoyed sharing adventures with Michael, her nephew, as they traveled to Florida and lived in San Diego, CA for many of years. In San Diego, she enjoyed the pool, beach, and convertible rides and outings to scenic La Jolla with Angela and Michael. She always had a smile and loved to watch her soap operas and enjoyed her coffee, candy bars, and a glass of wine on Friday and Saturday nights. We contribute her good mood and longevity to lots of friends, coffee, candy, and wine. Thanks to a longtime family friend Donald Whipple for his support in caring for Kathy the last couple years. We also appreciated the help from the wonderful crew, Cindy and Kristen, from Hospice of Southern Maine the past several months. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, February 20, 2017 from 4:00 to 6:00pm at the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland, Maine. Burial will be held at a later date.
