Katherine L. Bertrand

Katherine L. Bertrand, 89, of Sanford, died on Friday, February 1, 2013 at the H.D. Goodall Hospital in Sanford.Katherine was born in Freedom, New Hampshire on April 26, 1923 to Clarence and Ella (Judkins) Wyman. She grew up in Freedom and Limerick where she attended local schools. She was very athletic when she was young and played on the girls basketball team in high school. Katherine was a very hard worker. She was employed as a spinner in the Sanford/Springvale textile mills for many years. After the Goodall Mills closed she and her family relocated to Florida where they stayed for several years until eventually returning to Maine. Upon returning to Maine she went back to work in the Sanford Mills where she stayed until she retired.Katherine was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary for over 45 years. She was also an avid Bingo player. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Katherine was predeceased by three brothers, Austin Wyman, Hugh Wyman and Randolph Wyman.Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Albert "Tarz" Bertrand of Sanford; five children, Wayne Tuttle of Massachusetts, Richard O'Brien and his wife Sandra of Sanford, Sharon Waterhouse and her husband John of Sanford, Craig O'Brien and his wife Pam of Sanford and Randy Bertrand and his wife Bonnie of Dover; 14 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and a nephew, Dean Wyman and his wife Holly of Limerick.A private graveside service will be held in the spring at the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Springvale.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the York County Shelter Food Pantry C/O York County Shelter Programs, Inc., P.O.
