Kathereen Lafoe-Newton

Kathereen "Kathy" M. Lafoe-Newton, 61, of Lyman, Maine died on Sunday, October 28, 2012 at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.Kathy was born on June 29, 1951 in Beverley, MA to Thomas C. and Helen (Hajdys) Lafoe. She grew up in Ipswich, MA where she attended local schools.Kathy, with her former husband, James Newton and their two daughters lived in Boxford, MA for several years before moving to Maine in 1988. She worked as a secretary for the family business for many years but will most likely be remembered for her role as a dedicated homemaker.Kathy had a passion for cooking and enjoyed making big meals and hosting gatherings for her friends and family. She was also an avid reader. She spent a great deal of time at the local library, often checking out 4 or 5 books at a time and returning each week for another batch. She got a kindle for Christmas, but insisted still on having a few books handy to read. In recent months, Kathy met her companion, Larry, and looked forward to her weekends away with him, they were always on the go dining out, going to movies and shopping. She enjoyed traveling, antiquing, taking pictures and she loved flowers but it was time spent with family that gave her the greatest joy. Anyone who spoke with Kathy had no doubt the pride she had for her daughters, sons-in-law and her granddaughters. Kathy is predeceased by her father, Thomas and a sister, Christine.Kathy is survived by her two daughters, Kristen Grames and her husband Stephen and their children, Abagail and Hannah of Alfred and Rebecca Morais and her husband Jeremy and their children Haley and Casey of Lyman, her mother, Helen, of Ipswich, MA, her 8 brothers and sisters and their families, Thomas Lafoe, Carlene Lombardi, Sheron Gagnon, Millie Toth, Scott Lafoe, Crystal Galicki, John Lafoe, and Harold Lafoe, several nieces and nephews and her companion, Larry Hazen, of Lisbon.Visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 PM with a funeral service following at 3:00 PM on Friday, November 2nd at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home located at 580 Main Street in Springvale.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Lyman Community Library, 10 John Street, Lyman, Maine 04002 or the American Diabetes Association, 80 Elm Street, Portland, Maine 04101.
