Scarborough - Katharine Kingsley, 75, was called home to God on October 27, 2019 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. She passed away after a long illness. She was born February 21, 1944 in Framingham, MA to Earl H. and Winifred K. (Ward) Eggers, both of whom predeceased her. Katharine is survived by her husband of 54 years, Wilfred (Bill); two sons, Eric and his wife Julie of South Portland, ME and Christopher and his wife Jennifer of Oak Bluffs, MA; grandchildren, Jack and Rachel of South Portland, ME and Kaitlin and Blake of Oak Bluffs, MA; sisters, Valerie Carroll of Scarborough, ME, Deborah Eggers of West Tisbury, MA, and Jennifer Eggers of Waltham, MA; a nephew, Scott Carroll of Martha's Vineyard and his children, Mariah and Ellis. Katharine graduated from Martha's Vineyard Regional High School in 1961, received a BS from Bridgewater State University in 1965 and a MS from Wilmington University in Delaware. She began her teaching career in Milton, MA and went on to teach in Wallingford, CT, Hinsdale, IL, and New Castle County Schools in Delaware, where she spent the majority of her teaching career. She began her career as a school librarian, became a classroom teacher and later returned to being a school librarian where she shared her love of literature with elementary school children. She loved to walk Higgins Beach with her sister and visiting friends, garden in her backyard, read and bake. Her fondest pastime, however, was spending time with her grandchildren, especially Thanksgiving, Christmas, and cruises when they were all together. Since retiring to the Higgins Beach area in Maine in 2000, Kathy and Bill have embraced the area as their home. The family would like to thank Dr. Laurie Small and her staff, Dr. Christopher Wellins, the Gibson Center staff at Maine Medical Center, and Dr. Susana Campos at Dana Farber for their support. Along with family members there are many special friends that have been there for us. We thank them for their wealth of support. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11AM on Friday, November 8, 2019 at St. Maximillian Kolbe Church, 150 Black Point Rd, Scarborough. 1. Such a beautiful lady with a beautiful outlook on life. I was privileged to have had the opportunity to know her and share some of her light. Scott Ayre

  2. I was also a librarian in Colonial School District with Kathy for many years and have fond memories of us always advocating for additional funds! My sincere sympathy to family and friends.

  3. Dear Bill and Family, Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss. I had the pleasure and rewards of working with Kathy in the reopening of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School in Delaware. I remember her as having an amiable but determined demeanor which was reflected in the child-centered library she designed and filled with inviting books and media. In addition to encouraging love for reading, Kathy was available to help students with projects and for teachers wanting to add interest to lessons. Her library attracted our school’s community much like like our home kitchens attract guests. I know you will deeply miss her, but am certain that in memories she’s left a legacy of fine qualities which will influence your futures. Sincerely, Paul Biery

  4. I am so sorry to hear of Mrs. Kingsley’s passing. I had the honor of spending several years with the Kingsley family, and had a lot of fun at the house in Pike Creek and then in Perry Point. She was a wonderful mother and teacher, and I was honored to visit her at her school on several occasions as I pursued my own degree in education. The stories I got to hear were so funny, and told in her own special way, with the sarcasm and wit that was hers alone!! She will be missed. My love to the family. I wish I could be there to celebrate her life with you all.

    – Tracy Friswell-Jacobs

  5. Kathy has been a presence at so many of Jack’s games…. always quietly watching and cheering her boy on…. she cheered on all the boys. She was generous and kind and loving. She will be greatly missed.

    – Jessica Sobey
