Karlyne B. Cousens
Karlyne M. Beals Cousens, 88, of Springvale, died on June 13, 2013 at the Newton Center in Sanford where she had resided since February of this year. Her death was the result of a long struggle with Alzheimer's.Kay was born on January 23, 1925 in Sanford and was the only child of Elwyn E. and Mattie Twombley Beals. She grew up in Shapleigh at Ledgewood Farm and was a graduate of Lindsay High School Class of 1942 finishing 2nd in her class.On July 7, 1946 she married James R. Cousens and spent the rest of her life with him until his death on February 10, 2013. As newlyweds they established their home in Springvale where they resided for the next 65 years.Kay was employed in the office of the former Goodall Mills until 1955 when she retired to assist her husband Jim in management of Jim's Alignment.During their lives Kay and Jim enjoyed an active life including snow and water skiing, biking, hiking, motorcycling, gardening and their Boxer dogs for more than 50 years.Kay was a proud member of the Eastern Star and Grange and Pleasant Street Free Baptist Church in Springvale. She enjoyed many types of music and dancing with her husband; country fairs and church activities.Kay was predeceased by her parents and husband. There are no immediate survivors but Kay will be remembered by lifetime and longtime friends and neighbors and the caring professional staff at the Newton Center.A graveside service will be held on Saturday June 22nd at 10AM at Riverside Cemetery in Springvale.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.
