June Hogue

June Elaine (Theriault) Hogue (85) of Davenport, Florida, formerly of Sanford, Maine and Kingston, New Hampshire, passed away on October 19, 2022, surrounded by her children. June was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, Carleton J. Hogue, and their daughter, Susan Tori Hogue. She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Greenway and her partner Gary Engster and Brenda’s children Jason and Tori of Hot Springs, Arkansas; her daughter Jill Romano and her husband Jim and their children Christopher and Carolyn of Wenham, Massachusetts; her son Matthew Hogue and his wife Jennybeth and their daughter Sarah of Rochester, New Hampshire; her great granddaughter Ava and great grandson Barrett. June was born and raised in Sanford, Maine, to a family of 11 brothers and sisters. She attended Sanford High School where she met her future husband, Carleton. They were married in 1956 and eventually settled and raised their family in Kingston, New Hampshire. In addition to being a full-time mom and homemaker, June went back to school at Northern Essex Community College to train in accounting and became the bookkeeper for Dolliver’s Garage and later worked behind the counter at the Hardware Store on the Plains, both landmarks in Kingston. June and Carleton raised farm animals and kept a large garden and spent many years doing home improvement projects to their 150+ year old home. They worked together every year at a concession stand to benefit the Kingston Vets Club at the Kington Fair selling Canadian bacon sandwiches and ice cream bars. June was actively involved in school parent groups and the boosters. She was an avid sportswoman both as a candlepin bowler as well as pitcher for the local softball team. She also enjoyed painting, cross stitch and pottery. Upon Carleton’s retirement, June and Carleton relocated to Davenport, Florida, where she had resided for over 28 years. June would spend her summers with her family and her winters with her wonderful Florida community of friends. She was devoted to her family holding large family reunions at her home in Kingston attended by well over 100 brothers, sisters, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was lovingly committed to her surviving sisters, Betty Ann and Ruby, and surviving brothers, Elmer and Hib, and she took every opportunity to spend time with her children, grandchildren, and great granddaughter as well as her siblings and cousins. She and her husband were able to travel to Scotland and the Caribbean and she enjoyed frequent visits with friends to the casino, concerts and plays. She loved her Patriots and Bruins and was an avid tennis and golf fan. She was a wily and competitive player with her fellow Polo Park friends including golf, mahjong, cards, and dominoes, and she would readily volunteer to help organize activities at the park. She was well known for her can do “easy peasy, piece of cake” response to any challenges ahead of her. A memorial service will be held at Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale, Maine, on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception.
