June Sylvia Stewart 87, passed away February 19, 2025 at the Enclave of Scarborough senior living community in Scarborough, Maine. She was known for her warm, quiet, calm and generous spirit. June was born in West Warwick, RI on July 1, 1937 the daughter of Otto and Gladys Knight. June spent her childhood in Foster, RI attending Foster Center Grammar School, a 1-room schoolhouse next door to her home. She graduated Valedictorian of Mount Pleasant High School in Providence, RI. She received a Bachelor of Science in Education from Bryant College Providence, RI in 1958. She met her lifelong husband Douglas Parker Stewart at Bryant College and married in 1958. She lived in many states on the East Coast and in Morocco, Africa while Douglas served in the U.S. Marine Corps. She worked as a teacher of various grades from Kindergarten through College. She retired in Maine with Beal College being her final and favorite job where she taught Business and Secretarial Science. She was a member of Good Shephard Lutheran Church, Brunswick. June volunteered for the Maine Maritime Museum, Habitat for Humanity, Bath Garden Club and the Lutheran World Relief Mission making countless quilts. Her favorite hobbies included camping with her family in their Volkswagen camper, sailing on Madawaska Lake, biking and sewing. Retirement included many US road trips and taking cruises. June enjoyed owning and loving dogs. The highlight of her life was living on the Kennebec River in Phippsburg, ME down the road from her son and his family. She adored her grandchildren and cherished being a big part of their lives. June is survived by her son; Andrew Roy Stewart, and his wife, Lisa-Marie; daughter, Christine Lynn Stewart, and her partner, Chrystal Courtois; grandchildren, Marie Stewart Harmon, and her husband Matthew, Joshua Andrew Stewart, and his wife, Cecelia; great grandchildren, Fitzgerald Andrew Stewart and Ryerson John Stewart; and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband of 60 years Douglas Parker Stewart and sister Shirley Printer. June will be dearly missed.
