Resided in: Sebago, ME

Sebago – Judith “Judy” Anne Selberg, age 84, of Maine, passed away in Florida after a brief illness, Wednesday, April 2, 2025, with her loving family at her side. She was born on March 11, 1941 in Portland, ME to the late Dorothy and Norman Cole of South Portland, ME.

Judy was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ernest “Ernie” G. Selberg Sr. of nearly 59 years. and recently her brother, Philip Cole of Port Orange, Fl.  She is survived and deeply missed by her loving family; daughter Katherine Marie (Selberg) Daigle and husband Jeffery Daigle of Port Charlotte, Florida and Sebago, ME, her son Ernest G Selberg Jr and wife Carla Selberg of Brunswick, ME and her daughter Karen Elizabeth (Selberg) Murphy and husband Scott Murphy of Scarborough, ME.

Her memory lives on with her nine grandchildren: Jim Daigle and wife Kellie, Andy Daigle and wife Nora, Erik Selberg, and wife Erin Bucksbaum, Shaun Selberg and partner Ariel Posey, Ryan Selberg, Nick Murphy and partner Jessie Halajcsik, Brendan Murphy and partner Lily Karlin, Jake Murphy and partner Alyssa Bigos and Maggie Murphy and partner Ally Bornstein.  Five great-grandchildren; Charlie and Cole Daigle, Ellie and Aiden Daigle and Carter Selberg. Sister-in-law’s Arlene Cole and Alena (Chickie) Selberg and families.

Judy grew up in South Portland. Her adolescent years found her begrudgingly sent away to a girls boarding school in the Catskills of New York, where she eventually found solace and guidance with the nuns, lasting friendships …and now and then the occasional reprimand for her mischievous escapades.

Her summers were spent at girls camps where she found her love for horseback riding and boating.

She graduated from Gorham High School in 1959 and soon married the love of her life, Ernie Selberg Sr, at her mother’s camp on Sebago Lake.

Judy’s most cherished role was that of Mom and Homemaker, where she fulfilled her dream of nourishing a family with unconditional love.  She was a no no-nonsense, consistent rules mom, who also possessed the playful imagination of a kid.  She also worked as bookkeeper for the family-owned business Humpty Dumpty Potato Chip Company for many years.  Later she took pleasure working with her daughter Kathi at Bio Processing Inc. as a lab assistant.

Judy’s happiest place was at camp with her family, enjoying traditional spaghetti nights, swimming, boating, walks and sunsets. She was an avid loon lover and we learned so much from her.  Being a kid at heart, Judy loved playing any kind of game, especially beating her grandkids in a good game of canasta! She fell in love with sailing and became the proud owner of her own sailboat “Judy Anne”. She enjoyed horseback riding, and painting and always had at least 2 books going! Knitting was a favorite pastime, with mittens each year for the kids. She relished the quiet sanctuary of an early morning, a good book, and her canoe.

Judy and Ernie resided in So. Portland, ME for the majority of their years, raising their family, tending to their vegetable garden and spending time at their camp on Peabody Pond, Sebago, ME.  They also enjoyed many visits to the Caribbean islands.  Later, their time was split between Peabody Pond, and their home in Port Charlotte.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I first met Judy when she was introduced to my Gorham High School English class as a new student. I remember asking her if Phil Cole was her brother. I became close to her as I dated and eventually married Phil. Every Sunday morning we met online on the Skype App. After Phil died I continued this in fact not long ago we chatted for over an hour. I will miss her so much. Rest in peace with Ernie by your side Judy.

  2. My memories of Judy are few in the beginning, but Donnie and I got to know her and Ernie a bit once we had kids. They invited us up to the camp on Peabody Pond and we always had fun swimming and eating and playing games. She was so proud to be a great mother and grandmother. We both loved being in the water and swimming. We bonded over foot problems we shared. We will miss her and we hope she is in the arms of her long time love.
