Scarborough-Judith (Judy) Ann Flaherty, 75, passed away peacefully at Maine Medical Center on September 18, 2023. Judy born April 29, 1948 in Portland, ME. She was the fifth child of John T. Sr. and Alice H. Flaherty. Being their first daughter, Judy was a welcomed and much loved addition to the Flaherty family. As a young child, Judy worked on the family farm with her four older brothers and younger sister, Mary. She attended school at the Pride Training School in South Portland. The school later merged with Goodwill Industries and, as an adult, Judy was employed for 36 years by Goodwill at both their Cumberland Avenue and Falmouth locations until her retirement in 2016. Throughout her life Judy most enjoyed collecting dolls and stuffed animals, watching “Jeopardy”, “Wheel of Fortune” and the news, and spending time with her family. Judy had an uncanny ability to remember every birthday, anniversary, and important dates of her large family. Judy was a parishioner of St John the Evangelist Catholic Church in South Portland and later, St Maximilian Kolbe in Scarborough. Judy spent her life with her loving parents, and after their passing, with her brother James and his children, Cynthia, Catherine, Jessica, and Joshua. Judy was kind, always thankful and taught her family a lot about commitment. Judy was predeceased by her mother, Alice, in 1959, by her stepmother, Doris, in 2009, by her father, John, in 2010, and by her sister -in-law, Nina, in 2022. Judy is survived by her brothers, John Jr. and his wife, Connie, Edward Bruce, Stephen, Michael, and James; her sisters, Mary-Jo Taylor and her husband Dale, and Susan Blanchard and her husband Edward, along with many nephews and nieces. Visiting hours celebrating Judy’s life will be held on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 from 9am to 10:30am at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. 1. Dear Flaherty family. Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss of Judy. I did not know her personally but enjoyed my chats with Mary Jo when we worked together. Her name came up often. I loved the quote at the end of her nice obituary: “Know me for my abilities, not my disability”. So true! Sincere regards, Catharine.
