Joseph M. "Joe" Wagner, Financial OfficerALFRED, Joe Wagner, 84, died peacefully after a long battle with cancer on August 12th. Joe was born in Youngstown, Ohio, on May 26, 1927 the son of the late Rudy and Mabel Harris Wagner. The family moved to Waltham, Massachusetts when he was a child and became members of the Christ Church.Joe graduated from Waltham High School, Newton Junior College and earned an advanced degree in Business Administration at Suffolk University in Boston in 1954. Later, he graduated from the school of real estate at the University of Southern Maine and was a licensed real estate broker for 33 years.During World War II, he was assigned to the Adjutant General at the Allied Force Headquarters in Caserta, Italy. Later during the Korean War, he was assigned to the Adjutant General at the Pentagon in Washington D. C. He was a life long member of the American Legion.Joe held various management positions with Blue Cross-Blue Shield, Commercial Credit Corporation, Diamond International Corporation, Evans Products Company and retired from Deering Lumber in 1992. Recreational activities centered around his summer home on Square Pond in Shapleigh and enjoyed working on improvements on his historic homestead and pine grove in Alfred.Surviving him is his loving wife, Joyce of 56 years. He is also survived by his nephew, Kurt Wagner and his wife Lisa of Peach Bottom, PA and several grand nieces and nephews. There will be visiting from 12 to 1pm prior to the funeral at 1pm on Saturday, August 20th at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home 580 Main Street in Springvale.
