SOUTH PORTLAND - Josephine MacVane, 92, died Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at her home in South Portland, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Portland, on October 26, 1921; she is the daughter of the late Joseph Tashorty and Reba Warsaw. Josephine was a daily Communicant at Holy Cross Church for over 60 years, teaching Religious Education for over 30 years, and hosting a Bible Study Group in her home for many years. She was a talented seamstress and derived great joy in the making of beautiful vestments for the priests at Holy Cross Church. She worked as a welder in local shipyards building Liberty ships during World War II. She was the wife of the late Ernest W. MacVane, Sr. Josephine is survived by her daughter, Carol Ann MacVane of La Jolla, California; her son, Ernest W. MacVane, Jr. and his wife Jan MacVane of South Portland; her grandchildren, Daniel Dunn, Steven Manganello, Lisa Manganello., Anthony Manganello, Ernest MacVane, III, Michelle Page, Jennifer Silver and Michael MacVane. She was also known as nana to Ron Mackay. She loved and cherished nineteen great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren; her brother-in-law, Robert MacVane and his wife Louise; many nieces and nephews that she deeply loved, and numerous lifelong friends. Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours 1PM-4PM, Sunday, February 23rd at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited 9:15 a.m., Monday at the South Portland Chapel, followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Cross Church, 124 Cottage Road, South Portland. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, followed by a reception at Father Concannon Parish Hall, St. Maximilian Church, 150 Black Point Road, Scarborough.Online condolences may be expressed below.
