Josephine E. "Jo" Doyon, 90, of Sanford, died May 26 at the Newton Center in Sanford after a brief illness.She was born in Sanford on May 17, 1923, the daughter of James and F. Myrtle (Witham) Shroth and attended local schools.Jo was employed for a time with Universal Shoe and then for many years as a crossing guard at the Emerson and Main Streets intersection.She was a communicant of St. Ignatius Church and a former member of the Ladies of St. Anne.Jo was especially fond of her grandchildren and great grandchildren who were the loves of her life. She also enjoyed old western movies.Her husband, George Doyon, died in 2004.Survivors include her daughter, Betty Carlisle and her husband Stephen of Lebanon, son David Doyon and his wife Monica of Oxford, MA, grandchildren Stephanie Milliken, her husband Brian and their children Adam, Zachary and Scott of Milton, NH, Jamie Gauvin, her husband Jeremy and their children Kyle and Haley of Barnstead, MA, Kelsey Doyon of Arizona, Ethan Doyon and Chloe Doyon, both of Oxford, MA.Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 AM at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish at Holy Family Church, 66 North Avenue, Sanford. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery in Sanford.Jo's family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of the Newton Center for the extraordinary care and kindness shown to her and to them during her stay there.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Newton Center Activities Fund, 35 July Street, Sanford, ME 04073.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.
