Joseph S. Young, 75, of Sanford, died on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.Joe was born on February 28, 1935 in Lincoln, ME to Stephen and Nellie (Perry) Young. After finishing high school he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. and served for 11 years. After finishing his enlistment he attended the McIntosh Business School under the G.I. bill. When Joe finished college he moved with his family to California to work in high-rise construction as a journeyman carpenter under the Joiners and Builders Union Local 1400 in Santa Monica. After working for a time in California Joe and his wife moved to Sanford where they raised their two daughters. He was employed for 20 years at the Portsmouth Naval Ship Yard.Joe was a very religious man and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sanford. He was a devoted husband and father and liked spending time with his family. He loved attending family functions and reunions and could be found singing and playing his guitar for family members at these events. Joe will be remembered as a kind and loving man and will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Joe was predeceased by his wife of 47 Years, Ruby Young and by a daughter, Cynthia Crowley.Surviving are a daughter, Debbie Morin and her husband Dale of Sanford; a son-in-law, Edward Crowley of Springvale; a sister, Mary Agnes Johnson of Springvale; five grandsons, Paul S. Perreault of Sanford, John Perreault of Sanford, Michael Morin of Sanford, Joseph Crowley of Sanford and Teddy Crowley of Springvale; six great grandchildren; three nephews, Eddie Pierce, Ronald Grenier and Stanley Grenier and a grand-nephew, Dylan Grenier.Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 AM with a funeral service being held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 28th at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street in Springvale. Interment will be in the spring at Pine Grove Cemetery in South Waterboro.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Young Life of Greater Sanford Fund c/o the Sanford First Baptist Church, P.O.
